Spartanburg Youth Theatre announces auditions for the musical, Honk Jr., based on the Hans Christian Andersen book, The Ugly Duckling.  The auditions will take place in Chapman Cultural Center’s theatre on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 8 or 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Actors need to only attend one evening of auditions.  Please enter the theater through the front doors.  In order to audition students will need to prepare a Broadway- or Disney-style song.  Please bring sheet music or an accompaniment CD to the audition.  Actors will also need to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue.  Actors may bring their own monologue or use one that will be provided.  Children in grades 3 through 12 are welcome to audition, and children in grades 7 through 12 are invited to sign up to work backstage.

To help students prepare for the auditions, Spartanburg Youth Theatre is offering an optional audition workshop on Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Youth Theatre classroom at Chapman Cultural Center.  Students who take this workshop will come away with audition tips and a rehearsed monologue.  They will also have the opportunity to work with the script.  Cost is $25.  Call (864) 585-8278 to pre-register.  This workshop fills up quickly, and pre-registration is required.

The Spartanburg Little Theatre and Youth Theatre programs are funded in part by The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg, its donors, the City and County of Spartanburg, and The South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
