January 8, 2015 at 3:40 pm

The Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service Committee is happy to announce a variety of service activities scheduled for MLK Day of Service, which will take place on Monday, January 19.

MLK Day of Service 2015: Monday, January 19 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

Volunteers from across the county are encouraged to spend the holiday volunteering and, most appropriately, reflecting on the life and teachings of Dr. King. There are several ways for you to get involved, including a panel discussion led by community leaders, a poverty simulation, a blood drive, clearing trails, and organizing donations.

Individuals and groups can register for volunteer projects on Get Connected. Those interested simply need to visit  to browse and register for projects.

Food For Thought: Thursday, January 15 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of people of diverse backgrounds interacting on personal levels, “Food for Thought” encourages people to share a meal and discuss issues that affect their communities, to increase racial and cultural understanding and, to promote unity. Food For Thought will take place at three locations around Spartanburg. A different topic will be discussed at each location. The discussion topics are health, education or financial stability. The dinner is of no cost.

Please visit to browse and register for Food For Thought. The locations and correlating topics are listed.
