Kountourogiannis, Kolesnitchenko Earn Unanimous A-Sun Academic All-Conference Honors

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate sophomore Theodore Kountourogiannis and junior Anastasia Kolesnitchenko were unanimous choices for the 2015 A-Sun Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference Teams, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.

Kountourogiannis earns his first career Academic All-Conference recognition from the conference and is the third Upstate men’s athlete in program history to be selected along with Gilbert Kemboi and Ross Oden. For Kolesnitchenko, it is her third career accolade and second of 2014-15 after being named to the Indoor Academic All-Conference Team in March. She is the third women’s athlete to receive the honor joining Brittany Walls and Jemeli Sang.

A native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Kountourogiannis recorded four top-10 finishes this season while competing in the 1500-, 5000- and 10000-meters. He had a best finish of second at the Carolina’s Cup after running the 1500-meters in 4:13.90, giving him back-to-back top-10 performances. Kountourogiannis logged two seventh place showings in the 5000-meters at the Charlotte Invitational and 10000-meters during the season-opening CCU Invitational. His fourth finish of 10th or better on the season came at the Winthrop Invitational where he placed eighth in the 1500-meters developmental following a time of 4:19.49. He ranked 13th in the 10000-meters this season for the A-Sun.

Academically, Kountourogiannis currently has a 3.648 grade-point average and is majoring in english with a minor in psychology.

Kolesnitchenko, who is a local product from Boiling Springs, competed in six meets this year and posted four top-10 finishes in the 800- and 1500-meters. She had a best finish of sixth place in the 1500-meters after crossing the finish line in 4:56.33 at the Terrier Relays. Kolesnitchenko added two more top-10 showings in the 1500-meters as she placed eighth at the Charlotte Invitational and 10th at the A-Sun Championships. She collected a ninth place finish in the 800-meters at the Winthrop Invitational after posting a time of 2:22.30.

The junior boasts a 3.619 grade-point average while majoring in nursing.
