Spartans Baseball Ends Season with Loss at Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Fla. – Connor Marabell drove in three runs to lead Jacksonville to a 7-2 victory over USC Upstate Saturday in the final game of a three-game series from Sessions Stadium.

Angelo Amendolare and Cameron Gibson each finished with a pair of hits and one run scored as the Dolphins outhit Upstate 9-6.

Upstate freshman Charlie Carpenter led the Spartans on offense with two hits and Jake Beaver had one RBI.

Nathan Disch pitched a predetermined three innings and allowed one run on two hits and improved to 3-2. Shane Wise earned his third save of the season after pitching the final 1.1 innings.

Zac Manuppelli suffered the loss after giving up four runs on four hits in 3.1 innings on the mound.

Upstate manufactured a run in the third inning to break the scoreless tie when Erik Samples secured his 28th RBI of the season. Jaden Savage reached on an error to lead off the inning and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Miller. Daniel Fickas followed with a single to put runners on the corners before Samples plated Savage with a sac fly to centerfield.

Marabell delivered a two-run double in the bottom half to put Jacksonville ahead 2-1. Manuppelli retired the first two Dolphins on a groundout and strikeout, but a walk to Drew Luther and a single to Amendolare put runners on the corners for Marabell.

Jacksonville used a wild pitch and two-out RBI singles from Luther and Amendolare to push across three more runs in the fourth inning to open up a 5-1 lead.

Marabell collected his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly and Dylan Dillard drove in a run with a double in the seventh to push the lead to 7-1.

Beaver drove in a run for Upstate in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly for his 18th RBI of the season.
