USC Upstate to Host 4,700 Eighth Graders at College, Career Showcase

October 2, 2015 at 10:05 am

The University of South Carolina Upstate is pleased to welcome 4,700 eighth-grade students in public schools in Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties to campus on October 7-8 to attend the Upstate College and Career Readiness Showcase.

Students will begin arriving on campus around 8:30 a.m. and will depart around 2:30 p.m. Due to the number of school and students attending this event, please be prepared for slower traffic around campus. This also mean increased traffic getting in to campus and off of campus during this time. Please plan accordingly.

During the two-day event, students will explore the different opportunities for their future as they gather information about local colleges and upstate businesses. This is a wonderful, informative event to enlighten students about the importance of academic achievement and how it may impact their future career.

The showcase is a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Commerce, USC Upstate, Spartanburg Community College, The Upstate Regional Education Center Board, The Upstate Workforce Investment Board and the Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union school districts. This is the first year the event has been held. More than 35 vendors and 25 sponsors have helped to make this event a success by investing in their community and future members of their workforce.

For more information about the showcase, please contact Cherie Pressley, regional workforce advisor for the South Carolina Department of Commerce serving Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties, at (864) 503-5370 or at
