The USC Upstate men’s tennis team returns to action on Thursday as it travels across town to Wofford for a 1:30 p.m. match against the Terriers at Reeves Tennis Center.

The Spartans were scheduled to face Presbyterian College on Tuesday but the match was rescheduled due to inclement weather. Upstate claimed a 4-3 victory at Gardner-Webb to open the season last Friday. Ramon Simonetti, Lenhard Haupt, Jamie Yates and Tomas Venere claimed wins at the number one, three, five and six positions to secure the Spartans first season-opening win since 2013.

Wofford is 2-1 this season with victories over North Carolina A&T and King University, and a loss to Winthrop.

Upstate and Wofford are facing each other for the 13th time in program history with the Spartans holding a 9-3 lead in the series. Upstate also leads 4-3 when playing at Wofford. Thursday’s match is the first meeting since the Spartans claimed a 5-2 victory at the Upstate Tennis Complex on Feb. 23, 2011.

Upstate opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday against Winthrop at 2 p.m.
