After playing their first two Atlantic Sun conference series away from Harley Park, the USC Upstate Spartans continue a six-game homestand this weekend as they welcome Kennesaw State.

The series between the Owls and Spartans begins Friday at 6 p.m. followed by afternoon games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Each game will be streamed on ESPN3.

Upstate is 16-17 overall following a 7-4 10-inning home victory over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. Trailing 4-1 in the ninth, the Spartans scored three runs in the frame to force extra innings before Cody Brittain gave Upstate its first extra-inning victory of the year on a three-run home run. As a result of their late inning rally, Upstate completed the season sweep of Gardner-Webb and took a 22-21 lead in the all-time series against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

The Spartans are 1-4 in league play after dropping a three-game set last weekend at Lipscomb. Upstate won the opener 7-6 on Friday night before falling 7-6 in 10 innings on Saturday and 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. Upstate dropped a pair of games at NJIT during the opening weekend of league play with the final game of the series cancelled due to high winds.

Upstate enters the weekend with the league’s best fielding percentage at .973. The Spartans have made the fewest errors in the league with 32. The 13 triples hit by Upstate are the most in the A-Sun with Brittain holding the league lead with four triples. On the mound, Tyler Jackson leads the league with 66 strikeouts and Zach Mitchell is tied for the league lead with five wins.

Kennesaw State is 15-19 overall and leads the A-Sun with a 5-1 record. The Owls enter the weekend on the heels of a 6-5 home win over Auburn on Tuesday. Kennesaw State claimed their opening conference series against North Florida before sweeping NJIT last weekend and will be playing their first league road series this weekend. The Owls hold a 15-7 lead in the series between the schools in games played at the Division I level.

In addition to watching the game on ESPN3, fans can follow the action on via live stats. Updates will also be posted to the Upstate baseball Twitter page (@UPSTBSB).

The six-game homestand concludes next week against Furman and Charleston Southern on Tuesday and Wednesday.
