USC Upstate head baseball coach Matt Fincher has announced today the addition of Tim Brown to the baseball coaching staff. Brown will serve as an assistant coach and will work primarily with the Spartan pitching staff.

Brown has experience both at the Division I and Division II levels, most recently with Division II Lincoln Memorial University where he was on the staff from 2012-15. The Railsplitters won the 2013 South Atlantic Conference title for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Coach Fincher has given me,” Brown said. “I’m looking forward to helping build upon an outstanding baseball tradition and working toward winning an ASUN championship.

Prior to Lincoln Memorial, Brown spent four seasons as an assistant coach at George Washington University where he was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.  Brown was an assistant at Mount St. Mary’s (2006-08) and was part of the 2007 regular season title and 2008 NEC tournament title winning teams. He began collegiate coaching career at Siena College during the 2004-05 season and spent the 2005-06 season at Coppin State.

A total of 11 players have gone on to play professionally under Brown’s direction, including John Lannan, who has appeared in 153 Major League games as a member of the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.

“We are very happy to have Tim join our program,” head coach Matt Fincher said. “I spoke to a number of coaches throughout the process of making this decision, and feel strongly Tim is someone who can be a great asset in the development of our program.”

Brown is a 2004 graduate of Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with emphasis in Sports Management.
