Nominate A Student for the Earl Gordon Medal Award

The office of Student Affairs is seeking and accepting for the Annual Student Earl Gordon Medal Award.

This is a very prestigious award for students to have bestowed upon them. Please consider forwarding the name(s) of a student(s) whom you would like to nominate and that meet the criteria below to Amandela Harris, executive assistant in Student Affairs, at

Applicants must have completed all of the requirements to graduate from Upstate in August 2016, December 2016 or May 2017 and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Other Considerations include:

  • Volunteer/Service/USC Upstate, Local , Regional, State or National
  • Leadership Service

The University of South Carolina Upstate began presenting the Earl Gordon Medal for University Service in 1981. Gordon, who died in January that year, was the first dean of students at the university. The medals are presented each year to two members of the graduating class selected on the basis of service to the university and its students, involvement in campus activities, service to the community, and nobility of character — all of which were qualities that were reflected in the life of Gordon.
