USC Upstate senior center Michael Buchanan was honored twice this afternoon as the ASUN Player of the Week by both the conference and College Sports Madness following his performance last week as the Spartans picked up a pair of road wins at Jacksonville and North Florida.

For the week, Buchanan averaged a double-double of 22.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game while shooting 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the floor. He also averaged 26.0 minutes of playing time per game, and added two assists, one block and one steal. Buchanan now has 12 double-doubles on the season which puts him second in the conference.

Buchanan began the week on Thursday by recording the 20th double-double of his career with 23 points and 14 rebounds as Upstate overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Jacksonville 70-67. The win marked the first time since coming back from 12 points down against Kennesaw State on Feb. 16, 2013 that the Spartans have overcome a 10-point halftime deficit or more to win a game. Buchanan finished the game shooting 10-of-12 overall.

The Las Vegas, Nev. native added another double-double last Saturday at North Florida to help lead Upstate to its first win at UNF Arena since Jan. 31, 2015 by a score of 84-71. Buchanan compiled 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds after shooting 9-of-16 from the field and went 4-of-5 at the free-throw line.

Buchanan leads the team this season with 15.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, and ranks second in the league in rebounding and ninth in scoring. He also sits second in field goal percentage at 62.9 percent. Nationally, he ranks in the top 25 in double-doubles, field goal percentage, offensive rebounds per game and rebounds.

The weekly recognition is the fourth for Buchanan in his career and third this season. He was also named ASUN Player of the Week on Nov. 28 and Jan. 9.
