USC Upstate head coach Tyson John has added Emelie Valenciano for the 2017 season, it was announced today.

Valenciano, a native of Zarcero, Costa Rica, has international playing experience as she suited up for Costa Rica for three matches in the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and was on the roster for Costa Rica’s 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup team.

“Emilie is a world class player,” John stated. “She has represented her country from the youth national team all the way up to her most recent call up to Costa Rica’s senior national team in the last FIFA Women’s World Cup. She is a dominant and passionate person in all aspects of her life. We know that she will be a key player for us in the midfield as her experience has proven her to be successful here in the United States and abroad. We are very excited to have Emilie join our family here at Upstate.”

Upstate opens the 2017 season in mid-August.
