USC Upstate head men’s soccer coach Greg Hooks has announced today the schedule for the upcoming 2017 season, one that features six home games at County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate will open the year with two exhibition games at home before beginning the regular season at Georgia State on Aug. 27. The Spartans are scheduled to host exhibition games on Aug. 17 against Bob Jones and on Aug. 19 with Brevard.

“This schedule will provide a test for this year’s team,” said Hooks. “We create a schedule based upon the knowledge that our players want to compete against quality teams. They chose to play Division I soccer in order to play against this level of competition.”

Following the season opener, Upstate will play six games against non-conference opponents, including its home opener, prior to starting the ASUN portion of its schedule. Upstate hosts Liberty in its home opener on Sept. 1. The Spartans then hit the road for four non-conference matches with Presbyterian College (Aug. 30), Wofford (Sept. 8), Winthrop (Sept. 13) and High Point (Sept. 16). Upstate closes out non-conference play on Oct. 17 with a road contest at Gardner-Webb.

The ASUN portion of the 2017 schedule consists of six contests with three taking place at home and three on the road. The Spartans will play host to Lipscomb on Sept. 23, Stetson on Sept. 30 and Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 21. Upstate travels to face NJIT in the conference opener on Sept. 20, and finishes up at Jacksonville on Oct. 7 and North Florida in the regular season finale on Oct. 28.

The first round of the ASUN Men’s Soccer Championship will take place on Nov. 3 and be played at campus sites the first two rounds. The championship game is being hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 11.

“With the parity that exists in Division I men’s soccer, every match is intense,” Hooks added. “I am very confident that the players on this team will be up to the challenge, and I look forward to watching them succeed.”

The Spartans return 22 letterwinners from last year’s team, including ten starters, and also welcome in a total of ten newcomers to the 2017 squad.

Admission to all men’s soccer games this season will be free of charge.
