Former USC Upstate softball pitcher Lexi Shubert was recognized by the ASUN Conference on Thursday as part of its 2017 Spring Winners for Life Team honoring those who display excellence on and off the playing surface, the league office announced.

Shubert becomes the sixth Upstate student-athlete, and second from the softball program, to be selected to the Winners for Life Team along with former teammate Ryan Rector, and former Spartans Alex Love (men’s cross country/track), Rachel Baylor (women’s soccer), Alexa Hone (women’s soccer) and Brittany Starling (women’s basketball).

The team is comprised of one student-athlete from each of the eight institutions in the conference.

The Winners for Life Team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.

Shubert recently graduated from USC Upstate with a degree in graphic design and compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.88. She was a Dean’s List member seven times, while earning President’s and Chancellor’s List honors three times. Shubert was a two-time ASUN Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned ASUN Pitcher of the Year and Tournament MVP honors in 2015. She has been voted ASUN Pitcher of the Week eight times and helped the Spartans reach the NCAA Regionals in all four seasons.
