Carter, Warnock Wrap up Play at 86th SCGA Amateur Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. – USC Upstate men’s golfers Matt Carter and Jordan Warnock turned in solid performances over the weekend as both finished 16th or better at the 86th South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship held at the Florence Country Club.


Carter led the way by finishing in a tie for fourth place while Warnock compiled a 16th place performance. Carter carded scores of 66-70-71-69 for a combined score of 276 to conclude the tournament just four strokes back of winner Gregg Jones. Warnock added rounds of 68-72-70-73 to finish at 283 for the tournament.

Carter will be entering his junior season for the Spartans while Warnock is a rising sophomore. The duo were two of the top golfers for Upstate in 2016-17 as Carter was first on the team in scoring with a 74.44 stroke average while Warnock was third at 75.60. They combined for two top-10 finishes last season while Carter placed in the top-5 once. Warnock became the third Spartan men’s golfer in program history, along with Tom Schofield and Taylor White, to be selected to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.

Former Upstate men’s golfer Jamie Lightsey (2005-09) also competed in the SCGA Amateur Championship and placed in a tie for tenth place at 281 (69-67-74-71).
