USC Upstate women’s soccer head coach Tyson John announced today that Nadine Stonjek has joined the program as a volunteer assistant coach. Stonjek will primarily work with the Upstate goalkeepers.

Stonjek joins the Upstate family after a four-year career at the University of Northwest Ohio. While at UNOH, Stonjek won an NAIA National Championship with the Racers in 2016. She started 69 of 81 career matches and finished with a 63-11-3 overall record and a save percentage of 78 percent. She allowed 44 goals in her career and made 156 saves.

“We are all very excited to add Nadine to our staff!” John said. “Nadine is coming off her senior season as a National Champion and I know she is exactly what we need to continue our construction of a winning culture. Stuart Gore at UNOH has established that culture and was instrumental with Nadine’s development. We know her expertise will help serve our quest in creating a winning tradition here at Upstate”.

In addition to winning a national title at UHOH in 2016, Stonjek and the races qualified for the NAIA national tournament in each of her four seasons. She broke the NAIA single-season record for goalkeeper shutouts with 20 in 2014 and is the UNOH career record holder in saves, wins, shutouts, games played, games started and minutes played. Stonjek was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2015 and was a CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honoree in 2016.

“She was a four-year starter at UNOH and was successful in making a run in the national tournament every season of her collegiate career,” John stated. “That type of experience is intangible. We know that she was the perfect choice to teach and grow our very young group of keepers.”

Upstate will play an exhibition contest at 10 a.m. Saturday at Charleston Southern.
