USC Upstate students, along with Douglas Jackson, senior instructor of Spanish, participate in ESOL night with Spartanburg District 3.

USC Upstate students preparing for service abroad in Nicaragua had their first opportunity serve others during an event at Spartanburg District 3 Schools.

Seven students served as volunteers during English for Speakers of Other Languages Family (ESOL) Information Night at Daniel Morgan Technology Center on Feb. 8. The event, which focused on College and Career Preparation, allowed students to become comfortable with translating information for non-English speakers, as well as answer questions for them regarding the application process.

Students participating from USC Upstate were Elizabeth Weaver, Cesar Lopez, Irena Sharic Floyd, Amiliz Miranda-Velez, Emma Ebelle Ewane, Joshua Rodgers and Alice Biganzoli.

The students will travel to Nicaragua during spring break with professors Douglas Jackson and David Marlow.
