Long Promoted to Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Data Services and CIO

Spartanburg, S.C. –  C. Adam Long was recently promoted to associate vice chancellor for information technology and data services and chief information officer at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Long, who assumed his new duties on August 13, is responsible for planning, budgeting and managing all institutional information systems, networks, operations, and data services. This includes the campus network, telecommunications, academic and administrative computing support, Institutional Research and Business Intelligence, and Information Security. He will guide the institution decision making and policy implementation in all aspects of information systems and technology, together with management of data collection and application.

“We are most fortunate to have Adam Long as part of the leadership team in the critically important role of CIO,” said Dr. Clif Flynn, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Adam brings a wealth of expertise and experience to this position where he will provide valuable leadership to establish strategic direction for the effective utilization of technology and data.”

Long previously served as USC Upstate’s director of institutional research and business intelligence where he led a professional staff with comprehensive responsibility for institutional research, data and reporting administration, and enterprise applications. He was responsible for University-wide business efficiency projects. Before being promoted to director of institutional research and business intelligence, Long served as the institutional effectiveness compliance coordinator.

Prior to joining USC Upstate, Long served as the associate vice president for information technology at Limestone College from 2007 to 2016 where he assisted in the increase of student enrollment and implementation of a wide range of technology solutions.

Long earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems from Limestone College and a master’s degree in information systems and technology management with a specialization in project management from Capella University. He also served in the U.S. Air Force in maintenance control and analysis.
