The University of South Carolina Upstate is pleased to announce its George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics (JCBE) has earned reaccreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, one of the world’s most recognized accrediting bodies for business schools and programs.

Every five years, AACSB-accredited schools must undergo a rigorous peer review to prove they have the resources, credentials and commitment needed to provide students with first-rate, future-focused business education.

Accreditation recognizes that an institution has demonstrated a focus on excellence in teaching, research, curricula development, student learning and community engagement. Only about 5 percent of business schools worldwide hold this distinction.

“We are delighted and proud to receive a full extension of accreditation by the leading global accreditor of business schools,” said Dr. Mohamed Djerdjouri, dean of JCBE. “It’s a great honor, and, for our college, one that highlights the exceptional quality of our faculty, staff, students and program. It also validates the excellence of our teaching, research, curricula, student learning and community engagements.”

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the invaluable support we have received throughout the process from USC Upstate leadership, alumni, advisory board members, the members of the peer review team and AACSB staff,” Djerdjouri added. “I also thank the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics team—including the executive committee, faculty, staff and students—for their roles in earning this respected honor.”

JCBE has been accredited by AACSB International since 2000.

“I have been involved with a number of AACSB programs across the country, but none have been stronger than the program here at USC Upstate,” said USC Upstate Provost David Schecter. “These incredible faculty and hard-working staff, under the leadership of our gifted dean, are a model for business schools around the country. And our alumni and community supporters are second to none. We are so lucky to have such talent right here in Spartanburg.”
