USC Upstate Will Host Ribbon Cutting for Esports Arena on March 4

WHAT: The University of South Carolina Upstate will cut the ribbon for its new 1,600-square-foot gaming arena within its Health Education Complex. The center will serve as the headquarters for the university’s new esports program, which aims to attract future Spartans and enrich the student experience by creating a thriving gaming community on campus. USC Upstate introduced esports this spring as a club activity and intends to create a varsity program that will debut during the fall of 2022. University leaders and officials from other Big South member institutions are actively pursuing the development of competitions that could result in an informal conference championship.

The new center features 45 gaming stations, each equipped with a state-of-the-art computer by Alienware featuring an 11th generation Intel Core i9 processor 2.5 gigahertz with a 1 terabyte hard drive and 32 gigabytes of RAM memory, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card.
