For the second year, students from USC Upstate’s George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics will receive certification through The BB&T Leadership Institute’s Emerging Leadership Program.

The BB&T Leadership Institute provides leadership development programs for corporate executives, business owners, BB&T clients and education leaders.  During the Emerging Leadership Program, students undergo assessments to help them better understand their own leadership strengths and through a mix of group activities, they learn to appreciate how those strengths help them interact with others.

Thirty-eight students have been selected to participate in two, three-hour sessions on March 9 and March 23.

To qualify for selection, students must be business administration majors or minors, have been accepted to the upper-division program, have an institutional GPA of 2.75 or higher, and received a faculty recommendation based upon academic excellence, classroom participation, and leadership potential.

The BB&T Leadership Institute began with the firm, Farr Associates. Dr. James Farr consulted administrators and managers at leading companies of how to be leaders that could understand how to lead themselves before leading others. Farr Associates linked up with BB&T Leadership Institute in 1994 to develop a curriculum to make available to students at colleges and universities.
