Case, Gilstrap Selected to ASUN All-Academic Team

LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate softball players Brittany Case and Ansley Gilstrap were recognized by the ASUN Conference for their performances on the field and in the classroom on Monday afternoon as both were named to the All-Academic Team.

Case was a unanimous selection on the All-Academic Team while Gilstrap becomes a two-time honoree. Gilstrap is the second player in school history to receive multiple ASUN All-Academic Team recognition joining former Spartan Lexi Shubert who was named to the team three times.

Case, a native of Denham Springs, La., holds a 3.678 grade-point average and is a communications major with an emphasis on mass media. The junior ranks sixth in the ASUN this season in walks and tied for ninth in doubles. Having started in 47 games, Case has compiled a .311 batting average with two home runs and 27 RBI while contributing a team-high nine doubles. She did not commit an error defensively while compiling nine multi-hit and six multi-RBI games. Case set a new career-high this year with four RBI against Fairfield and tied her career-best of three hits twice versus Fairfield and East Tennessee State.

A native of Blythewood, S.C., Gilstrap has a 3.880 grade-point average and is majoring in exercise and sport science. She leads the ASUN this season, and is eighth nationally, with 39 stolen bases in 40 attempts. Starting in all 48 games, Gilstrap is hitting .264 with two home runs and 10 RBI. She ranks in the top-10 for the ASUN in runs scored and walks. She compiled 11 multi-hit and two multi-RBI games. Gilstrap went 14-for-14 in stolen bases against ASUN opponents and recorded a season-high three hits versus South Dakota.

North Florida’s Navia Penrod was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The ASUN All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games
