Chris Bender, associate professor of chemistry, received the American Chemical Society (ACS) Local Section Volunteer of the Year award for the Western Carolinas ACS Section.

Bender has been active in the local section since arriving in the Upstate 19 years ago. He has taken active leadership of the organization including attending its regular meetings. Bender has hosted the organization’s annual meeting on the USC Upstate campus 12 times.
