Kevin Hickey Named to CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

USC Upstate senior student-athlete Kevin Hickey was named to the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District® team for District 4, the College Sports Information Directors Association announced today.

Hickey is the second USC Upstate baseball player to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team and first since 2010 when current assistant coach Tyler Cook was selected to the team.

A business major with a 3.98 GPA, Hickey received his bachelor’s degree during USC Upstate’s commencement exercises on Tuesday evening. Hickey has made 11 starts for the Spartans this season and is 2-3 with a 3.71 ERA in 63.0 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts. On March 24, Hickey threw a complete game six-hit shutout against Dayton and was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week for his efforts.

As a member of the first team, Hickey will advance to the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team which will be announced in June. He is the lone ASUN Conference representative on the District 4 team, which consists of school in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically and have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
