Shoestring Players to Hold Auditions for “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play”

January 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm

The Shoestring Players at the University of South Carolina Upstate will hold auditions for “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play,” from 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center.

Performances will be March 1-4.

Each person auditioning should familiarize themselves with each play and be prepared to read from the script.

The play written by Anne Washburn asks what would happen if the grids that provide abundant electricity all failed at once, never to be restored. How would our culture be preserved and passed on to future generations? This play asks these and other questions as the characters find themselves in a blackout. Theatre has always been an archive of humanity’s time on earth. This play explores how we might try to remain connected to each other and how performance and pop culture might evolve, becoming the only vessel left to preserve our cultural history in a post – electric world.
