USC Upstate Prepared to Welcome Class of 2026

The University of South Carolina Upstate will welcome one of the most talented and diverse freshman classes in its history when the Fall 2022 semester begins on Thursday, Aug. 18.

“We are expecting more than 700 new ambitious freshmen who are scholars, athletes, and leaders who will have a positive impact on campus,” said Donette Stewart, vice chancellor for enrollment services and director of admissions for USC Upstate. “These students represent almost every county in South Carolina and 17 other states and countries. We have awarded almost $5 million in scholarships and financial aid to this freshman class.”

USC Upstate’s Class of 2026 is approximately 70 percent female and 60 percent non-white. A few other interesting facts about the makeup of this class include:

  • Nine high school valedictorians
  • Average SAT score of 1020
  • 3.9 Average GPA
  • The most popular major is Nursing followed by Biology and Exercise Science
  • Almost half are from the Upstate
  • The top three high schools represented are Dorman, Boiling Springs, and Byrnes
  • 90 Spartanburg Promise Scholars
  • 30 South Carolina Promise Scholars
  • 69 Upstate Scholars

Harris, Ph.D. “These talented and diverse students have shown tremendous resiliency and a commitment to excellence in the classroom and beyond. I have no doubt they will enrich our campus community and accomplish great things during the next four years.”
