Women’s Soccer Announces Signing Class

The USC Upstate women’s soccer team has announced the signing of eight players that will begin play with the Spartans during the 2018 season. Joining the Spartans are Brittany Burke, Carli Chiatto, Adelyn Claborn, Montanna Hill, Mackenzie Maggio, Hyori McDowell, Madison Pollard and Michelle Zilberman.

The signees hail from Alaska, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Ontario, Canada.

Montanna Hill

Hill arrives at USC Upstate as a transfer from Coastal Carolina. In 2017, Hill played in 10 matches and recorded one assist with four shots. During the 2016 season, Hill played in 20 games with 12 starts. She scored a hat trick against Louisiana Monroe on Oct. 7. During her scholastic career, Hill set the Linganore High School record with 65 goals. She was a three-time selection to the All-Area First Team and All-MVAL First team. As a junior and senior, Hill was named to the All-American watch list. She played club soccer for ASA Azzurri.

Michelle Zilberman

Zilberman joins the Spartans as a transfer from Hampton University. During her freshman season, Zilberman led the Lady Pirates with nine goals, 21 points and 31 shots. In the classroom, Zilberman earned the Athletic Academic Achievement Award. Zilberman graduated from Aurora High School and played for Unionville Milliken Soccer Club U18 in 2017, leading the team to the CSL League title while scoring 13 goals. She also played in the Maccabi Games in 2017 for Canada and finished in third place.

Brittany Burke

Burke joins the Spartans from the Darlington School in Rome, Ga. where she was a co-captain of the girl’s soccer academy team. Prior to attending the Darlington School, Burke attended Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska where she lettered in soccer and gymnastics. Burke has played club soccer for Eclipse Soccer Club, Cook Inlet Soccer Club and Alaska ODP 99 while in Anchorage. Burke holds dual citizenship in the United States and Italy.

Carli Chiatto

Chaitto arrives in Spartanburg as a transfer from Indiana State University. During the 2017 season, Chiatto played in six games. As a freshman, Chaitto played in 17 games with 13 starts. Prior to playing at Indiana State, Chiatto attended South Fayette HS in McDonald, Pa. where she earned Elite 11, All-WIPIAL and All-Section honors. Chiatto played for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds where she was the team captain and named All Tournament Top 11 and claimed a spot on the ASL All-Star team in 2015.

Adelyn Claborn

Claborn was a four-year letterwinner at West Orange High School. A scholastic teammate of current Spartan and 2017 ASUN All-Freshman Team member Emma Honis, Claborn was a starter in each of her four high school seasons and was named to the All-Academic Team in each of those years as well as the defensive player of the year. Claborn was named to the Orange County All-Star Team. She played club soccer for Florida Rush.

Hyori McDowell

McDowell is a three-sport letterwinner at North Augusta High School. As a junior, McDowell scored five goals and tallied six assists. During her senior season, McDowell had six goals with nine assists and was selected to play in the North-South Soccer Classic. She was the 2017 All-Region Player of the Year. McDowell played for the Bulls 99 Red club team.

Mackenzie Maggio

Maggio was a four-year letterwinner at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Fla. She was a member of a Bulldog team that claimed consecutive district titles in 2017 and 2018 as well as region semifinal appearances. She played for U-19 Brevard Soccer Alliance and led the team to an Elite 8 finish in the 2017 State Cup Tournament.

Madison Pollard

Pollard will stay within Spartanburg County to play college soccer as she is a four-year letterwinner at Spartanburg High School. Pollard was the top scorer in each of her four seasons and named the Best Offensive Player as a freshman, sophomore and senior. She played for CESA Greenville and won the 2014 and 2017 state championship.

The Spartans will begin their 2018 season in August.
